SYDNEY, Australia _ And a little Australian child shall lead them.

We're not talking about the Opening Ceremonies, either. These Olympics may go down among the best ever, but the women's individual all-around gymnastics finals will be its black eye. And not just because of another disappointing performance by the United States.

It will be remembered for what can only be termed an egregious mistake that some believe tainted the final results.

Somehow, someway, despite all kinds of supposed stop gaps and triple checks, the horse used in the vault was set five centimeters (about two inches) too low at the start of the competition Thursday night.

Despite surprisingly low scores by some top gymnasts, including American Elise Ray, who fell on her rear twice, no one noticed the problem until half of the field of 36 had vaulted.

But the 19th, Australia's Allana Slater, voiced the doubt that had been silently growing among gymnasts. Slate...

``I don't even know how to answer these questions,'' she said.

Ray frowned.

He was just 19 years, 221 days old when he won in Los Angeles, making him the youngest Olympic wrestling champion ever; upon winning the gold-medal bout by forfeit, Trstena performed an acrobatic routine on the mat. "I was happy and I like gymnastics," he explained. In 2001, Trstena was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to eight years in prison.

Ibragimov has struggled since Sydney and is not likely to repeat his bronze medal performance. But Samir Osmanov could win a medal at 74kg (163 lbs); he finished fifth at the 2003 World Championships.

Ναι, τώρα θα τα πω και εγώ έξω από τα δόντια.

1. Όσοι μπήκαν στα αυστραλιανά φόρουμ λέγοντας τις εξυπνάδες που λένε στους Αυστραλιανούς αποδεικνύουν μην πω τί (και ειλικρινά με έχουν φέρει μέχρι εδώ).

2. Όποιος μιλάει για ιστορίες και παρθενώνες να καταθέσει στο φόρουμ το τελευταίο του βιβλίο η αρχιτεκτονική μελέτη που καταρρίπτει τον Πλάτωνα και τον Ικτίνο. Αλλιώς να βγάλει τον μη πω τί και να είναι ευγενικός.

3. Όλες οι θεωρίες περί ανθελληνισμού είναι τρίχες κατσαρές.
