1)Τον ευχαριστησα που εκανε δημοσιως γνωστο το τι εγραψε αυτος ο τυπος

Τηρουμένων των αναλογιών, και παίρνοντας υπόψιν και την χώρα απ' όπου προέρχεται, μια χαρά είναι το παραπάνω άρθρο!!
Υπάρχουν μια σειρά από προβλήματα σε σχέση με την προετοιμασία, που τα ξέρουμε και εμείς και φωνάζουμε πρώτοι απ' όλους, που απλά παρατίθενται στο συγκεκριμένο άρθρο με καθαρά δημοσιογραφικό τρόπο και σχεδόν στεγνά.
Ούτε υστερίες, ούτε ειρωνεία, ούτε κρίσεις κατά της Ελλάδας και των Ελλήνων γενικά.
Δεν μπορούμε να στερήσουμε το δικαίωμα κριτικής από τους ξένους, ειδικά όταν εμείς δίνουμε δικαιώματα, ούτε όμως και να καθόμαστε απαθείς παρακολουθώντας ψυχωτικούς δημοσιογράφους απ' το Σ. Φρανσίσκο!
Και ευτυχώς που τα αντανακλαστικά μας δείχνουν να λειτουργούν ακόμα... Wink

Κοίτα, ο φίλος που μας έστειλε το γράμμα του προξένου και των υπολοίπων, προφανώς κάπου τα είδε δημοσιευμένα.
Στην σημερινή ηλεκτρονική έκδοση πάντως, έχει ανεβασμένα τα χθεσινά feedback, πράγμα που σημαίνει ότι έβαλαν αυτά που είχαν λάβει ως την Κυριακή. Δεν ξέρω τι ακριβώς γίνεται, θα το διευκρινίσουμε όμως.

Dear Mr. Cauthorn,

I'm writing to you as the Executive Director of the Hellenic Heritage Institute, regarding the article I read today April 5, from one of your columnists Mr. Scott Osler, with the title: Athens becoming a five ring circus."

Normaly I don't spend time answering to every columnist around the world who thinks they know what's going on concerning the preparation of the Olympic Games in Athens.

And I demand that your publisize my letter so we can set the record straight.

But his article was one of the worst I have ever read in my life, full of irony, sarcasm, inaccuracies, bad faith, and bad taste.

First of all I find his comparison of the Athen's organization with the Nazi Olympic Games extremely unlucky to say at least.

I would like to remind you a couple of things:

The Olympic Games only exist, because the Greeks gave them life twice, once with the ancient Games, and once with the inagural Games in 1896. On top of that they performed a "CPR service" for the third time with the mid-Olympics in 1906 when nobody wanted to have them.

Now for a fourth time they are about to save them again from the scandals of doping, bribing and overcommericalization. So, instead of whining and complaining we should all be thankfull that such a small nation has such a huge impact on the world's culture.

Couldn't Mr. Ostler focus on so many unique and positive aspects that these games will bring with them? Where else can we find 3 generations of Olympic facilities (Olympia, the Panathinaikon Stadion, and the modern facilities?)
Where else can we find the original distance from Marathon to Athens? Where else are we going to see top performers, competing in the shot put discipline in Olympia, Greece after 2,500 years?

Not to mention the entire culture and nature that would surround the Games and will rebaptize them and will purify them in the true spirit of the Olympic Games.

As you know, or you might not know, the ancient Olympic Games where under the protection of "Xenios Dias" (Hosting Zeus) which made Hospitality and the visitors to the Olympic Games sacred. This spirit still exists and can be testified from anyone who visited Greece even once.

As for the potential of a terrorsit attack this is certainly a joke, because if there is one place on the earth, that terrorsits would not dare to attack this is Athens, with the protection of the entire Greek Army, the Nato forces, and the European Allies. Greeks are respected around the world because we always respect other cultures as well.

By closing this e-mail I would like to emphasize one last thing. Every culture is different in the ways they do things. Greeks have been around for thousands of years, and have been successful, as you know. We do not need to prove anything to anybody anymore. As there is "New York Time," there is also "Greek Time." We will do things in our time, and not anybody else's. You can critisize us ONLY AFTER the games, not before.

Who ever thinks the Games in Athens are going to be a fiasco, they do not need to come to the Olympic Games, it will be for the best for everybody. The rest are all wellcome. We would be extremely happy to accomodate them and offer them a once in a lifetime experience.

Κρίμα που η εφημερίδα κάνει ακόμα την πάπια. Και υποτίθεται ότι είναι και από τις σοβαρές. Βεβαίως δεν μπορεί να αγνοήσει την επιστολή του γενικού προξένου, αλλά θα ήθελα να δω δημοσιευμένες και κάποιες από τις υπόλοιπες. Ας ελπίσουμε ότι μέσα στις επόμενες μέρες θα δούμε φως.
Το σίγουρο είναι ότι και μέσα στους κόλπους της εφημερίδας θα προκάλεσε τριγμούς. Τέτοια μαζική αντίδραση, ειδικά από τη στιγμή που και η Ελευθεροτυπία έδωσε τη διεύθυνση του δημοσιογράφου, δεν μπορεί να περάσει απαρατήρητη...
